What a marathon season actually costs

We pulled anonymised cost data from 1,200 Racendo users to answer the question runners hate asking out loud.

The median Racendo user logged three races in 2025 at a total of €2,940. The mean was €4,810, dragged up by the long tail of World Marathon Majors travellers averaging €3,200 per major.

Entry fees were the smallest line item — under 15% on average. Flights and accommodation dominated, together accounting for 62% of total spend. Gear and nutrition were 11%. Coaching and physio made up the rest.

The biggest cost-saving insight from the data: runners who booked travel within 30 days of entering paid 41% more for accommodation than those who booked 90+ days out. The race itself is cheap. The lateness tax is real.

Entry fees were under 15%. The real bill is travel.
